Efficacy of Intravesical Instillation of Hyaluronic Acid in Bladder Pain Syndrome/ Interstitial Cystitis Patients

AIMS
The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of intravesical instillation of hyaluronic acid in patients with Bladder Pain Syndrome/Interstitial Cystitis (BPS/IC).
METHODS
The study included 6 patients with BPS/IC who received intravesical instillation of the hyaluronic acid (40mg) for 5 weeks at least. Then Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) and the O’Leary/Sant Questionnaire (ICSI/ICPI) were recorded during pre and post-treatment. Demographic and the efficacy of the treatment was investigating according to these data.
RESULTS
All of the patient got improvement in VAS, ICSI and ICPI scores after the treatment. VAS showed the reduction from average 5.5 to 1.5 (p<0.05). In addition, ICSI improved from average 11 to 6 (p<0.05) and ICPI from average 11.2 to 6 (p<0.05).
CONCLUSIONS
Symptoms of BPS/IC showed the promising improvement after intravesical instillation of hyaluronic acid.
